Super Easy Garlic Knots

August 26, 2009

What pirate doesn’t love a good garlic knot?  Moving to the south has had it’s adjustments, one of them being trying to find a good pizza place.  Of course we have the chains, but there is nothing like a good slice of pie and all the sides that comes with a pizza.  So I have started making pizza at home.  It’s easy, cost effective, and the crew eats it.  Arrrr!!!!  So the following is the recipe for the pizza dough, which can be used for many things, including garlic knots.

(This should be going on the Recipe Page, but I’m having an issue remembering how to get a draft on a certain page.  I have no brain.)

Pizza Dough

2 3/4 – 3 1/4 cups of all purpose flour

1 package of dry active yeast

1 cup of warm water

2 tablespoons oil

Combine half of the flour with the yeast.  Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt if you want.  Add the warm water and oil.  Mix/beat.  Then add the rest of the flour gradually.  It should form a nice stretchy dough.  Turn onto a floured surface and give it a good knead for five to ten minutes.

For Knots:  pull off sections and roll them into a length that you can tie a nice knot.  Maybe seven inches long.  Then Make a mixture of pressed garlic, garlic powder, salt, pepper, parseley, and oil for the dressing.   You have to really cover the knots with the sauce so they don’t get dried out while baking.  I fit 23 good sized knots on a cookie sheet and baked at 375 for 15 minutes.  The are yummy and could be eating all by themselves.

What a beatiful day to stay indoors.

August 25, 2009

It’s absolutely gorgeous outside, the kind of weather kids can play in and get tired from.  But I’m not going out, not yet.

There is a man on the run from authorities in our community this morning.  Helicopters started a search after he fled on foot after firing at them when he did not stop at a check point.  Two schools are closed on the first day of school due to this guy.  So needless to say, I’m staying in with my charges until I hear he has been caught.  I know what your thinking; That’s a little un-piratey.  But one female with four little buckaneers to watch and a bad guy on the lose with a gun, my odds would not be to great.  Well let’s hope the police find him soon.

Four under Four

August 20, 2009

So, really quickly, I’ve been watching two additional kids for a pregnant friend while she goes to work till she has the baby.  Her due date was two days ago, so say a prayer for her.  It is nice having two playmates the same age as my kids for a while.

Ok. I’m gonna go clean something.

Teething Child

August 18, 2009

Oi Vey!  My poor little Tank is getting his canine teeth in on the right side on top and bottom.  Running a low grade fever, I’ve been giving him Motrin every four to six hours.  His appetite has been less than impressive, which for him is something.  There is a reason he’s a ‘tank’.  Sunday and Monday vomiting took place, but don’t worry, I was the recipient of most of it.  Today he seems a little bit but still hasn’t had anything to eat.  Juice and water sippy cups have been sustaining him.  Hopefully he’ll feel better soon.

Weigh In

August 17, 2009

I’ve been going to the gym now five to six times a week, for about five weeks.  The usual routine is wake up when kids do, get hubby off to work, feed children and self, get kids and self ready to go, go to gym.  Saturdays I work out with hubby.  Lately, I’ve been going Wednesday evenings with my hubby because his workout buddy goes to church.  Last Wednesday something very humiliating happened to me.  Take a deep breath, sit down if you need to.  My husband of six years peeked at the number on the scale when I weighed myself.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some might say I’m overreacting, but this is a big deal to me.  I am very sensitive about my weight.  Am I obese? No. Overweight? Yes.  I am trying very hard to lose it.  The weight that is, I ‘lost it’ a while ago. :)   Another thing you should know is that I don’t tell anyone my weight.  Not my mother, not my sisters, my father and brothers probably wouldn’t care, but still, they don’t know.  The ONLY person who knows would be my doctor.  And know, my husband.

Probably the worst part of the whole thing was how nonchalant he was about the whole thing.  “I still weigh more than you do.”  Your a six foot two inch tall man, your supposed to weigh more than me.  I’m veritically challenged at five two, but don’t care.  Good things come in small (or short) packages.  But I digress.

I just think it was wrong.  He knows I’m weight sensitive.  I didn’t look when he weighed himself, but then again, he wouldn’t have cared.  Am I being to crazy and female?  I know it’s not very pirate-like to be so upset, but pirates do act by their emotions just as much as the next weirdo.

Tell me what you think.

Similarities between Moms and Pirate Captains

August 12, 2009

I find that there are some similarities between the two.  Being both, here are some thoughts:

Diplomacy:  Whether its deciding who gets to wear the ducky towel after bath or dividing up the booty of the latest pilage (which was customary), diplomacy is key.

Dancing and Sing  Appreciated by the whole crew.

Giving Orders:  Hoist the main sail!  Weigh anchor!  Swab the poop deck!        Clean up that mess!  Eat your dinner!  Wipe after you poop!

MutanyFor both occupations, muntany is NOT an option!!!

OMG Halloween is getting so close!

August 10, 2009

OK, OK, so it’s still August.  But seriously people if I’m going to be something awesome I have to start thinking now.  The process takes a while.  I have many things to factor in, like if I’ll be going to any parties or will it strictly be trick or treating w/ the kiddies.  Will my services be needed at hubby’s school for frivolity?  What will I weigh at the time?  (I’ve been working out and actually losing.)  All this and more must be considered.  I’m also thinking of themes here people.  Bean wants to be a princess (again).  Could I make Tank a prince?  Not likely, I don’t forsee him keeping a crown on for any length of time.  He’s also been into the pirates lately.  I don’t know who influences him at all.  :)   (By the way, if you have little ones who enjoy piracy as much as mine do, rent The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything, it’s great!

Speaking of pilaging, they just woke up from their nap.  Let me hear some suggestions.

Yea!! It’s Monday!

August 10, 2009

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in writting before.  Most people hate Mondays.  Back to the grind at a miserable job, the death of the weekend.  For me, Mondays are like a warm up for the rest of the week.  If I get going on Monday, the rest of the week seems to run relatively smoothly.  So heres to Mondays, may they be revving you up today.

How Pirate-like are you?

So the Rededication didn’t work out so well.

August 5, 2009

Ok so I’ve had some life stuff to deal with, but now will try to get back into the swing of things.  I’m also going to enlist the assistance of my sister to get this blog to be rather schnazzy.  So coming soon will be a bunch of articles to help you out.  New Recipes, Money Saving tips and ideas, and anything else I can conjure up in this little brain of mine.  So stay tuned…
